Bringing up children | ||
When my children were young we had a hand to mouth existence.
I had a fairly posh job, we owned a house, had a company car and somehow managed to go on holiday every year. But we did it by maxing credit cards. When the cards were of no more help I had to go cap in hand to my parents. And of course the bank of last resort came up trumps. The arrangement we made was that I would give them a small amount every time we visited them, which was quite often. This worked ok and I diligently paid up for months. Then my mum suddenly announced the debt had been paid off. I said that could not possibly be. We certainly had not paid off the entire amount. My mum asked if I had kept a record of my payments. I had not. I was relying on them to tell me when I had repaid the debt. Well then you have, she said. |
