Mole at Hodbarrow
At Hodbarrow a mole. Goodness knows how it coped with the heat (it’s 19 degrees) in that coat. There seem to be a lot of moles about, judging by the molehills.

That’s surprising since the mine managers here used to wear moleskin coats, which required the pelts of an enormous number of moles. They used moleskin because of a rare property of the fur, it doesn’t rough up; you can stroke it both ways and it remains smooth.

The idea was that that made it ideal for getting about tunnels; and perhaps it does.
