Bettaney play gets airing on
Release issued today by the international platform for theatre Scenesaver:

Scenesaver is all about innovation, we like to bring you cutting edge theatre, so we are very excited to be able to show you the first ever play produced using Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated performers.

The play is Fly Me To The Loon by acclaimed Australian playwright Frank Gauntlett, whose work is already featured on Scenesaver.

His latest play is about Michael Bettaney, the British spy and double agent. When the script was finished, Frank gave it to longstanding and trusted friend, video producer Jo Brind. It was Jo who had the idea to create the play but, rather than using live actors, to use AI-generated performers. Watch Fly Me To The Loon

This is very much a work in progress, in coming weeks, as the technology becomes more sophisticated, Jo plans to update the footage.

And for the traditionalists among you, rolling their eyes in horror at the thought of AI-generated performers, it is worth remembering that theatre is not static. It has evolved over thousands of years. Features such as sound, lighting and projection- that we accept as standard today-were once innovative. Nothing will replace live theatre, but AI is becoming part of our lives and for the theatre maker it may be another weapon in their creative armoury.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on Fly Me To The Loon and AI-generated performance. Email us: info@scenesaver.co.uk

Have a good weekend, Caroline and Lindsey
