It's often fun, sometimes a challenge and gives me a feeling of having accomplished something, though I'm not quite sure what. Clearly my French has improved a lot but I still can't sit down and watch a film in French without subtitles. Learning has its own rewards: it keeps the brain nimble and gives some structure to my day. Speaking French, however, is not one of the rewards: so far, anyway.
