Bean trees, as in were trees once.
Beans means vandalism

These strange trees are slowly being removed from Chatham High Street. I don't know what type they are but as you can see they produce a high quality compact wood.

Most of the year they have long green legume like fruits that fall off and make the place untidy, which probably explains why someone wants to get rid of them.

But I think it is remarkable to have mature trees that appear to be doing no harm at all to surrounding buildings or pavements.

No doubt they will be replaced by something ghastly like ornamental cherries. If they were almost anywhere else there would be tree preservation orders.
