Spuds rejuvenate in mild winter

This is my garden pictured today. The row of potato plants, which look like they will be ready for digging in no more than a month's time (if we don't have a frost), are the residue of a crop I planted last year.

The plants were destroyed when my friend Nick Levinge and I went in for a bit of amateur tree surgery, felling trees that blocked light from my garden.

We lacked a proper waste strategy and the garden (including the potato plants) got swamped with tree waste. The weather lately has been so mild that some of the potatoes have decided it's spring and have rejuvenated.
