London: Petrol bombers attacked the home of a council leader whose Labour group sparked angry demonstrations when it announced a 62 per cent rates rise.

Scotland Yard said a petrol bomb thrown at the house of Neil Gerrard, leader of Waltham Forest council, charred the front door. No-one was hurt in the attack.
